Background of the Study
National income levels in Nigeria are significantly influenced by the interplay of tax policies and government spending. Coordinated tax and spending policies aim to balance fiscal discipline with social welfare objectives by optimizing revenue generation while ensuring effective public expenditure (Adeyemi, 2023). These policies are designed to increase disposable income, stimulate consumption, and foster equitable growth across different segments of society (Okoro, 2024). The harmonization of taxation and spending measures helps create a predictable fiscal environment that supports both private sector development and public service delivery. Recent reforms have emphasized the need for synchronized fiscal actions that reduce income disparities and promote overall economic well-being (Balogun, 2025). This study investigates how coordinated fiscal strategies impact national income levels by examining the relationship between progressive taxation, targeted spending, and income distribution patterns. By addressing inefficiencies in both revenue mobilization and public expenditure, coordinated policies can potentially elevate national income and reduce socioeconomic disparities.
Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to coordinate tax and spending policies, national income levels in Nigeria have not experienced consistent growth. Structural issues such as inefficient tax collection, misallocation of public funds, and income disparities continue to undermine the potential impact of these policies (Okoro, 2024). The lack of effective synchronization between revenue generation and expenditure has led to suboptimal distribution of resources, thereby limiting income growth across various sectors (Adeyemi, 2023; Balogun, 2025).

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it explores the effects of coordinated tax and spending policies on national income levels in Nigeria. Its findings will guide fiscal reforms aimed at promoting economic equity, boosting overall income, and fostering sustainable economic growth (Adeyemi, 2023; Okoro, 2024; Balogun, 2025).
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to examining the effect of coordinated tax and spending policies on national income levels in Nigeria. It focuses solely on fiscal policy measures without considering external economic influences.
